1, Progress in Processing Technology of Automotive Aluminum Alloy
Casting Technology
Casting is an important technology in the manufacturing of aluminum alloy automotive parts. Traditional casting methods include gravity casting, pressure casting, and sand casting. With the advancement of technology, new casting techniques such as vacuum die casting, semi-solid casting, and squeeze casting have emerged. These new technologies have significant advantages in improving casting quality, reducing production costs, and shortening production cycles.
Vacuum die-casting: By introducing a vacuum environment during the die-casting process, the porosity and inclusions in the casting are effectively reduced, and the density and mechanical properties of the casting are improved.
Semi solid casting: By utilizing the good fluidity, strong filling ability, and reduced solidification shrinkage of aluminum alloy in the semi-solid state, complex shaped and high-precision automotive parts can be produced.
Squeezing casting: Injecting molten aluminum alloy into a mold under high pressure, and rapidly solidifying the aluminum alloy through the extrusion effect of the mold, can obtain castings with dense structure and high strength.
Cutting technology
Cutting is another key technology in the manufacturing of aluminum alloy automotive parts. With the development of CNC machining technology and high-speed cutting technology, the cutting efficiency and quality of aluminum alloy automotive parts have been significantly improved.
Numerical control machining technology: By controlling the motion trajectory and cutting parameters of the machine tool through computer programming, precise machining and complex shape machining of aluminum alloy automotive parts can be achieved.
High speed cutting technology: By using high-speed cutting tools and feed rates, cutting efficiency and machining accuracy can be greatly improved, while reducing the impact of cutting forces and cutting heat on aluminum alloy materials.
Connection technology
The connection technology of aluminum alloy automotive parts mainly includes welding, riveting, and adhesive bonding. In recent years, with the emergence of new connection technologies such as laser welding, friction stir welding, and self piercing riveting, the connection quality and efficiency of aluminum alloy automotive parts have been significantly improved.
Laser welding: It has the advantages of fast welding speed, small heat affected zone, and high weld quality, especially suitable for connecting thin aluminum alloys.
Friction stir welding: The aluminum alloy is melted and connected by the frictional heat between the stirring head and the workpiece, which has the advantages of no need for welding wire, no need for protective gas, and small welding deformation.
Self piercing riveting: Using the self piercing force of rivets to connect two or more layers of aluminum alloy sheets together, it has the advantages of high connection strength, simple process, and easy automation.
2, Progress in Surface Treatment Technology of Automotive Aluminum Alloys
anodic oxidation
Anodizing is a traditional method for surface treatment of aluminum alloys. By forming a dense aluminum oxide film on the surface of aluminum alloy, its corrosion resistance and hardness can be improved. In recent years, with the improvement of environmental awareness and technological progress, new anodizing technologies such as chromium free anodizing and micro arc oxidation have emerged.
Chromium free anodizing: Using environmentally friendly electrolytes instead of traditional chromium containing electrolytes reduces the impact of wastewater treatment and waste discharge on the environment.
Micro arc oxidation: By generating micro arc discharge on the surface of aluminum alloy under high voltage, a thicker and denser aluminum oxide film is formed, which has higher corrosion resistance and hardness.
Electroplating and Chemical Plating
Electroplating and chemical plating are another important method for surface treatment of aluminum alloys. By coating a layer of metal or alloy on the surface of aluminum alloy, its corrosion resistance, hardness, and decorative properties can be improved. In recent years, new electroplating technologies such as zinc nickel alloy electroplating, cyanide free electroplating, and composite electroplating have emerged.
Zinc nickel alloy electroplating: Zinc nickel alloy coatings have excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, especially suitable for anti-corrosion treatment of automotive aluminum alloy components.
Cyanide free electroplating: Using environmentally friendly electroplating solution instead of traditional cyanide containing electroplating solution reduces the impact of wastewater treatment and waste discharge on the environment.
Composite electroplating: By adding nanoparticles and other additives to the electroplating solution, a composite structure can be formed in the coating to improve its performance and functionality.
Spray painting and coating
Spraying and coating are common methods for surface treatment of aluminum alloys. By spraying a layer of paint or coating on the surface of aluminum alloy, its corrosion resistance, aesthetics, and durability can be improved. In recent years, with the increasingly strict environmental regulations and consumers' higher requirements for the appearance quality of automobiles, new types of coatings such as water-based coatings, powder coatings, and high solid content coatings, as well as new coating technologies such as electrophoretic coating and robot spraying, have emerged.
Water based coatings: Coatings using water as a solvent have the advantages of environmental protection, non toxicity, and easy cleaning, and are particularly suitable for coating treatment of automotive aluminum alloy parts.
Powder coating: Powder coating has the advantages of no pollution, high utilization rate, and easy implementation of automated coating, and has been widely used in the coating of automotive aluminum alloy parts.
Electrophoretic coating: Electrophoretic coating is a coating method in which aluminum alloy components are immersed in an electrolyte containing coating particles, and the coating particles are deposited on the surface of the aluminum alloy under the action of an electric field. It has the advantages of uniform coating, strong adhesion, and good corrosion resistance.
Robot spraying: Robot spraying can achieve precise, efficient, and stable spraying operations, improving the coating quality and production efficiency of automotive aluminum alloy parts.
